Walter (Wilhelm) Gieseking ( 1895 -- 1956 )

Pianist, born of German parents in Lyon, France. He studied in Hanover and made his first public appearance in 1915. After World War 1 he established an international reputation, especially in the works of Debussy and Ravel.
