Eugen Jochum ( 1902 -- 1987 )

Conductor, born in Babenhausen, Germany. He studied in Augsburg (1914--22) and Munich (1922-4), and became musical director of the Hamburg Staatsoper and conductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra (1934--49). In 1949 he returned to Munich, where he conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
