Pianist, born in Karwin, Hungary. He studied from the age of six at the Budapest Royal Academy, and made his debut in Budapest (1916). An acclaimed interpreter of Chopin and Liszt, he also gave first performances of works by Bartók, Kodály, Tippett, Walton, and others. He settled in England in 1935, and was a frequent chamber-music partner of his brother-in-law, Yehudi Menuhin. |
