Edgar Leslie Bainton ( 1880 -- 1956 )
Composer, teacher, and conductor, born in London, England, UK. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, before being appointed professor, and later principal, of the Conservatory of Music, Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1938 he was appointed director of the Conservatory in Sydney, New South Wales, and from that time played a key role in the music life of his adopted city, conducting the State Symphony Orchestra and later the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. A prolific composer, he wrote three operas, chamber music, song settings, and piano pieces.
