Composer, born in Mexico City. He formed the Mexican Symphony Orchestra in 1928, becoming director of the National Conservatory. As an official in the Ministry of Fine Arts, his influence on every aspect of Mexican music was enormous. His works, little known outside his own country, are influenced by Mexican folk music, and include ballets, symphonies, and concertos and an unusual Toccata for Percussion (1942). |
