Singer, born in Madrid. At seven she sang in New York, and there made her debut in 1859. She appeared in London in 1861. Her voice was an unusually high, rich, ringing soprano, and she is best remembered for her comedy roles, notably in Rossini's The Barber of Seville. She made her home in Craig-y-nos Castle, near Swansea, and in 1898 became a naturalized British citizen. |
