Composer, born in Liège, Belgium. After studying in Rome and working for a year in Geneva (1766) he settled in Paris, and composed over 40 comic operas, of which Le Huron (1768) and Lucile (1769) were the earliest; among the best known are Raoul and Richard coeur-de-lion. He became inspector of the Conservatoire and a member of the Institute. He published his Mémoires in 1796. |
