Helga Dernesch ( 1939 -- )

Operatic soprano, born in Vienna. She studied at the Vienna Conservatory, made her debut in Bern (1961), and sang at Covent Garden in 1970. She has sung throughout Europe and the USA, and is specially noted for her portrayals of Wagner, Strauss, and the modern German repertory. Since 1979 she has sung mezzo-soprano roles.
