Conductor, born in Raab, Hungary. He studied at Vienna, became conductor at Munich, Budapest, and Vienna, gave a series of annual concerts in London (1879--97), and was conductor of the Hallé Orchestra (1897--1911). He was an authority on the music of Wagner, with whom he was closely associated in the Bayreuth festivals. |
