Alan Rawsthorne ( 1905 -- 1971 )

Composer, born in Haslingden, Lancashire, NW England, UK. He trained as a dentist, then turned to music, studying in Manchester and Berlin. He settled in London in 1935, and wrote a wide range of works, including three symphonies, eight concertos, choral and chamber music, and several film scores.
