Sir George Thomas Thalben-Ball ( 1896 -- 1987 )

Organist and composer, born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Educated privately, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London. He became assistant organist at the Temple Church, London, (1919) and was appointed organist (1923--81). From the early 1920s his name was synonymous with the Temple Church, both in radio broadcasts and on HMV records. He also made regular appearances in the Henry Wood promenade concerts for the BBC, as music adviser and consultant from 1941. He was also organ professor and examiner at the Royal College of Music, and curator-organist at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
