Composer, born in Aacvila, Spain. He studied music in Rome, and at Loyola's Collegium Germanicum was appointed chaplain and (in 1573) choirmaster. In 1578 he was made chaplain at San Girolamo della Carità, and c.1585 returned to Spain as chaplain to the widowed Empress Maria in Madrid, where he was choirmaster until his death. He wrote only religious music, his 180 works including several books of motets and over 20 Masses. |
