Musician, born near Lucerne, Switzerland, the son of Richard Wagner. He was trained as an architect, but later became a conductor and composer of operas and other music. He was director of the Bayreuth Festspielhaus from 1909. In 1915 he married Winifred Williams (1897--1980), who later directed the Bayreuth Festivals until 1944. |
