Composer, born in Lyon, France. He was organist at Lyon and (1870) at St Sulpice, Paris, and became professor of organ (1890) and composition (1896) at the Paris Conservatoire. He composed 10 symphonies for the organ, as well as a ballet, chamber music, and other orchestral works, and is probably best known for his Toccata, a favourite for weddings. |
