Alexander von Zemlinsky ( 1871 -- 1942 )

Composer and conductor, born in Vienna. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory, and conducted in Vienna (1906--11), Prague (1911--27), and Berlin (1927--32). His compositions, in post-Romantic style, include seven complete and six incomplete operas, orchestral works, chamber music, choral works, and songs. In 1934 he emigrated to the USA.
